BYD introduced Fang Cheng Bao, its fifth EV brand, back in early June. Then, about a month later, we found out the name of its first model: Leopard 5. We've already seen it in some camo in the past, and today we get another look in the image above. No more camo, but the image isn't the highest-quality. According to the brand, the Leopard 5 will be an "SF model". That's SF as in Sci-Fi, not SF as in San Francisco - at least we don't think so.
Anyway, Fang Cheng Bao today announced
it's holding a special event in China on August 16. Unfortunately, it may not
be the launch event for the Leopard 5, since the company told local media that
it's going to be a "brand and technology launch". Then again, the
invite did come with the image showing the Leopard 5, so we're still mildly
optimistic.
If not a full-on launch for its first car,
then hopefully we'll see more teasers for upcoming models
from the newly established BYD sub-brand. In the meantime, here's a quick video
showing the Leopard 5 from more angles. According to sources in China, the
Leopard 5 will cost from CNY 400,000 to CNY 600,000 (US$ 55,000 to US$ 83,000),
helping BYD secure a presence in the over-CNY 300,000 (US$ 41,000) space where so
far it's been underrepresented.
