The Stone 01 EREV SUV’s interior was exposed in some spy images, revealing a huge touch screen and a brawny design. The Stone 01 is an off-roader from Rox Motor and BAW (Beijing Automobile Works). It is a full size SUV with a price range about of 300,000 – 500,000 yuan (US$ 41,820 – 69,700). As we can see in the spy shot, the Stone 01 got a big floating LCD touch screen that sits in the center console. Under the main screen, we can notice air vents, two wireless phone charging pads, a retractable gear selector and a pair of cup holders. We can also highlight here a red button that is actually a kill-switch button that is usually placed in every test car with a high-voltage system. Under the center tunnel, there is a spacious compartment.
The Stone 01 has a relatively big LCD
instrument panel that sits right behind a three-spoke steering wheel and a flat
bottom. As we can see, the rest of the center console of the Stone 01 is
covered with camouflage. However, according to information from Chinese media,
a front passenger of the Stone 01 will have its own touch screen. It is a
common thing for modern cars in China. Here, we have to mention that the
interior of the Stone 01 SUV is highly unfinished. So, the production model can
be quite different from the version we have seen today. For an example, the
retractable gear lever can be replaced with a rotary one. Anyway, thanks to
these spy shots, we know how the interior of the Stone 01 will look like.
The Stone 01 is the first car from Rox
Motor company. It was founded in 2021 by Chang Jing, the CEO and founder of the
Roborock, a vacuum cleaner maker related to Xiaomi. Nowadays, Rox cooperates
with lots of well-known suppliers such as CATL, Bosch and Valeo. But it hasn’t
got its own plant, so how it will produce the Stone 01? This is the part when
we are ready to talk about the Rox Motor’s partner, a well-known company BAW.
It will take care of the mass production of the Stone 01.
Speaking about the actual car, it was
recently unveiled in MIIT Announcements. It is a full-size SUV with dimensions
of 5050/1980/1869 mm and a wheelbase of 3010 mm. For an example, it is 80 mm
shorter and 76 mm lower than the Land Cruiser 300 from Toyota. Under the hood,
the Stone 01 has a 1.5-liter petrol-powered ICE for 112 kW (152 hp). Sounds
pathetic, but this engine doesn’t transfer any torque to the wheels. Instead,
it acts like a generator, charging a battery. To move around, the Stone 01 will
use twin electric motors for 350 kW (476 hp). It is 27 hp more that the Li Auto
L9 has. As for the battery, it will be supplied by CATL.
The Stone 01 will be launched in China in
August this year with a starting price of 300,000 yuan (US$ 41,820). It is positioned
as a competitor to some off-road SUVs such as Tank 500, upcoming Fang Cheng Bao
Leopard 5 and even G-Class.
