The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is already available in various markets around the world but it has only just been announced for the Australian market. It will be sold exclusively in EQS 450 4Matic SUV guise and start at an eye-watering AU$ 194,900 (US$ 125,000) before on-road costs and registration fees. Found beneath the skin of the EQS 450 SUV is a massive 108.4 kWh battery pack that drives electric motors at the front and rear, making for a combined 265 kW (355 hp) and 800 Nm of torque. A local range figure has not been announced but in the U.S. it is rated with 459 km of range on the EPA testing cycle.
The added size of the EQS SUV when
compared to the EQE SUV makes it even more well-suited to families. For
example, it offers between 645 liters and 880 liters of cargo space in the rear
with the second-row seats in position or a massive 2,100 liters with the seat
folded down. All local models come with three rows of seats and even with the
third row in place, there remains 195 liters of storage space.
Three key options will be offered for the
Australian-spec EQS 450 SUV. The first is the AU$ 11,700 (US$ 7,526) Comfort Plus
Package that adds seatback-mounted rear seat entertainment systems for the
second row alongside sets of wires headphones. This package also includes a
rear tablet, wireless smartphone charging, pillow headrests in the second row,
and a heated steering wheel. As standard, the EQS 450 SUV has a 12.3-inch
digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch infotainment display but for
AU$ 6,700 (US$ 4,309), the MBUX Hyperscreen can be ordered. It combines a 12.3-inch
instrument cluster with a 17.7-inch infotainment display, and a 12.3-inch
passenger display. Customers can also add rear-axle steering for AU$ 2,900
(US$ 1,865).
Local order books for the luxurious
electric SUV have already opened but it is not yet clear when it will start to
arrive in the hands of customers.
