The Nissan Qashqai family will soon grow in Australia with confirmation that a new variant with the firm’s e-Power technology is landing locally in Q1 2024. Up until this point, all Nissan Qashqai models sold locally have come outfitted with a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 147 hp and 250 Nm of torque. While this engine will remain the standard offering on all versions for the 2024 model year, the flagship Qashqai Ti can now be ordered with the firm’s trick hybrid powertrain. Prices for the Ti e-Power start at AU$ 51,590 (US$ 32,531), representing a AU$ 4,560 (US$ 2,875) premium over the standard Qashqai Ti.
The e-Power hybrid system consists of a
1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine with 156 hp that
is supplemented by a power generator, an inverter, and a 140 kW (188 hp)
electric motor. The engine itself features the advanced variable compression
functionality first introduced by Infiniti in 2018, allowing for the compression
ratio to be adjusted on the fly to balance performance and economy.
Unlike most hybrids, the Nissan Qashqai Ti
e-Power includes a near one-pedal driving mode that Nissan calls e-Pedal Step.
This function can be activated at the press of a button and provides
regenerative braking forces of up to 0.2g. While this system can bring the SUV
down to creeping speed, it doesn’t bring it to a complete stop.
Nissan Australia will open online
reservations for the Qashqai Ti e-Power on November 2.
