The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has long been a popular choice for adventurers looking for a luxurious van that they can live out of and take on testing overlanding adventures. Now, Benchmark Vehicles has unveiled its latest Sprinter-based creation that it dubs DESO and as far as Mercedes vans go, it is one of the most heavily modified examples we’ve seen. Coming in at just over US$ 385,000, it’s also quite expensive.
This Sprinter started out life as a
regular 2023 model equipped with all-wheel drive. Benchmark Vehicles then went
to work upgrading the important mechanical components of the Mercedes,
including the fitment of Fox 2.0 shocks as part of its Agile Off-Road Ride
Improvement Package. The company also fitted it with new leaf springs, Bilstein
heavy-duty coilovers, and a set of Owl Talon wheels with all-terrain tires.
A host of exterior changes have also been
made. These include the fitment of new front and rear bumpers as well as the
presence of a Warn Zeon Platinum 12S winch. The Sprinter also has X Bull fender
flares, a Roambuilt roof rack, new lights on the fascia and roof, and an
awning. Heck, there is even a snorkel to ensure the Sprinter can wade through
deep water without a care in the world. Storage boxes, a cargo carrier, and
even a mount for a Starlink satellite antenna are also present.
Then we get to the interior, arguably the
most important area considering that’s where owners will spend most of their
time. The living space includes a large
platform bed, driver and passenger seats clad in leather and cloth, window
covers, and interior walls that have been insulated. DESO is also laden with an
induction cooktop, sink, coffee maker, a JL Audio system, and plenty of
cabinets to store all your goodies. There is even a large sink with a water
filtration system fed by a 35-gallon heated stainless steel water tank.
Powering the interior systems is a 640AH lithium battery bank.
While this particular Mercedes-Benz
Sprinter camper has a price tag of over US$ 385,000, Benchmark Vehicles does sell
simpler Sprinter commissions from US$ 250,000.
