Volkswagen published the first official teaser of the facelifted Golf, confirming that its debut will be one of the highlights of 2024. The shadowy teaser appeared in an official video for the year-end, going over all of the VW models that were introduced in 2023. While we are already familiar with the design of the facelifted Golf thanks to spy shots of uncamouflaged prototypes, this is the first teaser coming directly from the source. It reveals the revised LED lighting signature of the compact hatchback, comprising new headlights with graphics inspired by the ID range, an LED strip above the slim grille, and an illuminated VW emblem.
As previewed by our speculative renderings
above, the visual updates on the 2025 VW Golf will be focused on the front end,
with the rest of the bodywork remaining largely unchanged. This applies to both
the hatchback and the Variant (estate) bodystyles that will continue to be
offered. The interior will receive a much larger free-standing infotainment
display, alongside improved quality, and new tech features bringing the Golf in
line with the rest of the VW range.
The powertrain options of the existing
model are expected to be carried over with small updates and a greater focus on
the improved PHEV system. The facelifted range will also include the
performance-oriented GTI (gasoline), GTD (diesel), GTE (PHEV), and R trims.
While the VW Golf recently lost the crown of Europe’s best-selling model, it
remains a very important asset for the automaker. The midlifecycle update will
extend the lifecycle of the Golf MK8 and keep it relevant for a few more years,
until the all-electric Golf MK9 arrives towards the end of the decade. It has
been confirmed that the next generation will ride on the new SSP architecture
and will be produced at the Wolfsburg plant in Germany.
