German motorhome specialist Vanderer has debuted a rather unusual-looking Citroen Berlingo EV at a recent auto show in Stuttgart. The compact van has been reworked with a vintage exterior and given modular camper equipment, letting owners convert it from regular van into home on wheels and vice versa. The company has production plans for 200 such vehicles. Starting with the exterior, it is a custom body kit produced by Italian vendor Caselani. The goal was to liken the appearance of the Berlingo EV to one of Citroen’s first vans in history: the 2CV AU, which premiered in the middle of the 20th century.
The donor van was an example stretched to
4,750 mm of body length. It received a dining area transforming
into a bed for two and a pop-up roof with enough room below for another two
sleeping places.
A kitchen on board features a stove, a
sink, a fridge and a number of storage compartments. You can slide it out and
cook outdoors in good weather, but you can also use it from the inside. Vanderer
emphasizes that all camping equipment seen here is easily detachable and can be
removed at any time.
Power-wise, it is a normal pre-facelift
Berlingo EV with 136 PS under the hood and a 50 kWh of energy
storage. When empty, it covers up to 275 km on a charge, but we
expect the camper version to be less mobile than that.
