Before fully committing to an electric vehicle (EV)-only future, Abarth has introduced a new anniversary special edition based on the old internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered 695. Named the Abarth 695 75° Anniversario, it’s the latest in a series of special editions that we have simply lost count of. This particular edition commemorates the 75th birthday of the Scorpion Brand, with the limited production run of 1,368 units symbolizing the capacity of the widely-used 1.4 T-Jet (1,368 cc) engine as it prepares for its eventual retirement.
At first glance, the Abarth 695 75°
Anniversario appears less striking or special than the 70° Anniversario
released five years ago, as it doesn’t come with the wide fender extensions or
the upright-sitting adjustable wing. Instead, there is a huge scorpion on the
roof, complementing the golden Abarth lettering and piston head stickers on the
profile. The 17-inch alloy wheels are also finished in gold, contrasting the
black livery and the satin black accents.
Inside, the dashboard is covered in black
Alcantara, matching the inserts on the Sabelt carbon seats. There is a gold 75°
Anniversario emblem stitched on the integrated headrests, aluminum pedals and
more carbon trim on the steering wheel. Equipment includes the 7-inch
infotainment, a Beats Audio sound system, and auto climate control. Still,
those in search of the latest tech will likely opt for the much newer 500e and
600e fully electric counterparts. The special edition of the hot hatch is
powered by the 1.4 T-Jet engine that has been under the hood of all Abarth
models including the Punto, 500, 595, and 695 series since 2007. In this case,
it comes equipped with a Garrett GT 1446 turbocharger, producing 178 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque.
The output might be less impressive than
the 237 hp of the upcoming Abarth 600e Scorpionissima, but
the good old 695 will certainly sound a lot better. As with earlier to-end
versions of the hot hatch, the 75° Anniversario is equipped with a Record Monza
active valve exhaust. It also gets the Koni FSD shock absorbers on both axles,
enhancing its cornering abilities. The Abarth 695 75° Anniversario is already
available to order in European markets, representing the brand’s priciest
ICE-powered offering. In the UK, the special edition costs £ 32,895 (US$ 41,552)
which is less than the £ 38,695 (US$ 48,862) of the Abarth 500e, despite the
limited availability of 1,368 units.
