Hyundai expanded the lineup of the Staria in Korea with the new self-charging hybrid option, offering more power and better fuel economy than the existing 2.2-liter diesel and 3.5-liter petrol V6. The electrified setup comprises a turbocharged 1.6-liter Smartstream four-cylinder petrol engine, a single electric motor, and a six-speed automatic gearbox sending power to the front wheels. The ICE alone is good for 178 hp and 265 Nm, while the electric motor peaks at 72 hp and 304 Nm. The combined output of the hybrid system is a respectable 242 hp and 367 Nm of torque, with the stylish but chunky minivan tipping the scales at 2,220 kg. The new Staria hybrid is the most powerful Staria to date, surpassing the non-electrified 3.5-liter V6 option while offering a combined fuel consumption of 7.7 lt/100 km (30.6 mpg).
The hybrid version of the Hyundai Staria
doesn’t bring any visual updates compared to the non-electrified trims,
retaining the futuristic LED strip at the front and the massive greenhouse.
Inside, the Cargo (LCV) version can be ordered with 3 or 5 seats, while the
passenger Tourer model is offered with 9 or 11 seats. Available features
include a digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment display with
Hybrid-specific graphics, automatic climate control, heated and ventilated
seats, and an array of ADAS systems.
Other updates include a USB-C charging
port, a new smart key, front parking sensors, and a slower operation for the
automatic sliding doors. Furthermore, Hyundai offers a range of genuine
accessories focused on practicality, like a tailgate-mounted multi-hanger, a
luggage partition table, a foldable chair, and a sliding cargo floor for the
LCV models.
The Hyundai Staria Hybrid is already
available to order in the Korean market. Pricing starts from ₩ 34,330,000
(US$ 25,711) for the Cargo version and from ₩ 36,530,000 (US$ 27,364) for the Tourer.
It is safe to assume that Hyundai will export the electrified van to other
markets later this year.
