BMW recently held an international media launch for the 2024 X2 in Lisbon, Portugal, and has generously published almost 200 new images of the crossover coupe. Whether these photos will be sufficient to persuade consumers of the vehicle’s unconventional exterior design remains to be seen. Of the two X2 models showcased, you’ll likely notice the high-performance X2 M35i first. Painted in a color dubbed Frozen Tampa Bay Green, while we don’t anticipate many BMW buyers opting for this color, it certainly makes a dramatic statement.
Contrasting the green paint are several
black elements across the exterior, including the front grille, air intakes,
and part of the bumper. It is also equipped with black wing mirrors and rocks a
set of unique wheels with black and silver elements.
The Brooklyn Grey model is the iX2
xDrive30. It looks very similar to the combustion-powered models and the
xDrive30 is the only configuration the iX2 is available in. It sports electric
motors at both the front and rear axles and delivers a combined 309 hp and 494 Nm of torque, allowing it to hit 100 km/h in a respectable
5.6 seconds and a 180 km/h top speed. Providing the two motors with
their juice is a 64.8 kWh battery pack. BMW says the iX2 xDrive30 can travel
between 417 km – 449 km on a single charge. Sadly for
U.S. buyers, the iX2 will not be sold locally.
Two versions of the combustion version are
available stateside. The first of these is the xDrive28i with a 2.0-liter
four-cylinder rated at 241 hp and 400 Nm of torque while coupled to
a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving all four wheels. The X2 M35i ups
the performance stakes with 312 hp and 400 Nm from its 2.0-liter
turbocharged four-cylinder. In the U.S., the X2 xDrive28i starts at US$ 42,995,
while the more powerful M35i is priced from US$ 52,395. Both MSRPs include a US$
995 destination fee.
