This is the Avatr 07, the latest NEV from the joint venture between Changan and CATL. Like other vehicles from the small Avatr brand, the 07 uses many technologies from Huawei who serves as an important parts supplier. Avatr released a handful of teasers of the 07 last week. At the time, it was known as the Avatr 15 but new images and details from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveal it’ll be dubbed the 07. Changan has developed it as a rival to the all-conquering Tesla Model Y and local reports suggest it’ll be priced between 250,000 yuan and 350,000 yuan (US$ 34,600 to US$ 48,400).

The design and overall shape of the 07 is very similar to the company’s other crossover, the Avatr 11. Your eyes will be immediately drawn to the LED daytime running lights that extend down the fascia and connect to a black grille. The car can be equipped with traditional wing mirrors or side-view cameras, and it has relatively smooth and simple door panels with flush door handles. The rear is also very similar to the Avatr 11 and 12 with a tiny window and thin LED taillights. The area dedicated to the license plate holder has also been designed to mimic the shape of the front grille.

While the 07 is being positioned as a rival to the Model Y, it’s a little bigger than the Tesla. It measures 4,825 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and stands 1,620 mm tall with a 2,940 mm wheelbase. This makes it 75 mm longer, 59 mm wider, and 4 mm lower than the Model Y. It will be available with 20-inch and 21-inch wheels.

Avatr will sell both BEV and range-extender EV versions of the 07. The entry-level BEV has a single motor at the rear axle with 338 hp and an LFP battery from CATL. A dual-motor BEV is also on the cards and will have a combined 590 hp. Last but not least will be the standard EREV with a 310 hp electric motor at the rear axle and a 1.5-liter engine with 154 hp. An all-wheel drive EREV with a combined 485 hp and 178 km of all-electric range is also available.
