BMW’s bread and butter sedan is getting an update as the company has unveiled the 2025 3-Series. It features revised styling, an upgraded interior, and new technology. Starting outside, the 2025 3-Series has a revised color palette that now includes Arctic Race Blue metallic and Vegas Red metallic. Customers will also find two new BMW Individual colors known as Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue metallic. Besides new colors, models outfitted with the M Sport package – which comes standard on the M340i – have new 19-inch M alloy wheels with a double-spoke design as well as a two-tone or Jet Black finish. All models can also be equipped with new BMW Individual 19-inch alloy wheels that feature a Y-spoke design.
Moving inside, drivers will find a new
steering wheel and “cascade lighting” that is integrated into the trim around
the new central air vents. Customers can select between nine different colors
and adjust the brightness to suit their tastes. BMW also noted there are
welcome and goodbye animations as well as “light signals indicating certain
scenarios such as an incoming phone call or an open door.” Designers also
tweaked the décor as Fineline Light open-pore wood trim now comes standard on
the 330i, while the M340i gets M Aluminum Rhombicle. Customers can also get
Aluminum Fine Brushed or Ash Grey open-pore wood trim, while the M340i also
offers carbon fiber trim. Other highlights include an upgraded Sensatec
dashboard and available Galvanic controls, which “adds a unique luster to the
window switches, door lock button, and air vent adjustment stalks.” Buyers will
also find an upgraded infotainment system running BMW Operating System 8.5. The
latter has a new home screen, more intuitive operation, and an improved menu
structure. There’s also a customizable widget bar, simplified climate controls,
improved navigation and an Augmented View function.
The updates continue under the hood as the
2025 M340i is outfitted with a new 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine
that features a 48V mild hybrid system for sharper power delivery and greater
efficiency. It produces 386 hp and 539 Nm of
torque, which is an increase of 4 hp and 39 Nm. The
engine is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which enables the
car to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in as little as 4.1 seconds when
equipped with all-wheel drive. If drivers keep their foot planted, the model
will eventually hit an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder
in the 330i has also been reworked as it features redesigned intake ports and
combustion chambers as well as “innovations in the areas of camshaft control,
injection, ignition system, and exhaust gas routing.” Despite the changes, the
mild hybrid powertrain continues to produce 255 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Last but not least, BMW said the sedan has new
chassis tuning that “further enhances the balance between sporting capability
and comfort.” The company didn’t go into many specifics, but said the model
benefits from stiffer mounts that connect the rear dampers to the body. BMW
also noted the steering system has been revised to allow for reduced effort in
Comfort mode.
A global launch is slated to take place in
July, while US-spec models will roll off the assembly line in Mexico this
August. When the 3-Series arrives at American dealerships, pricing will begin
at US$ 45,500. That’s US$ 1,000 more than its predecessor, but the M340i jumps US$ 2,000
to begin at US$ 59,600.
