Toyota announced a new addition to the Corolla lineup for the 2025 MY, bringing back the FX moniker from the late ’80s. The Toyota Corolla FX Special Edition features a larger infotainment, 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, and a sportier chassis setup, combined with a carry-over 2.0-liter gasoline powertrain. The special edition is inspired by the Toyota Corolla FX16 from 1987. However, unlike the RWD hot hatch from the past, the modern FX is based on the FWD Corolla sedan, adding a small dose of sportiness in the mid-spec SE trim.
Visually, the FX is distinguished by a new
set of 18-inch alloy wheels finished in satin black with machined accents, and
a new spoiler mounted on the tailgate. The special edition is only available in
three shades – Midnight Black Metallic, Ice Cap, and Underground – always
combined with a black finish for the roof, mirrors, and badging. Finally, the
FX wears the more aggressive bumpers, already found in the SE and Nightshade
trims of the Corolla.
Inside, the highlight is the new 10.5-inch
infotainment touchscreen display on the dashboard, replacing the previous
8-inch unit. The larger display is included as standard in the FX and will also
be available in other trims of the 2025 Toyota Corolla. The model also features
a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a wireless charging pad sourced from
the flagship XSE trim, plus the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS suite.
Despite the sporty looks, the 2025 Toyota
Corolla FX comes fitted with the stock 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. There
are no performance upgrades over the lesser trims, with the mill still
producing 169 hp and 205 Nm of torque,
exclusively mated to a CVT gearbox. However, Toyota tweaked the chassis setup
with lowering springs and different tuning for the electric power steering.
The first examples of the 2025 Toyota
Corolla FX Special Edition will reach US dealerships in the fall of 2024.
Pricing will be announced closer to the market launch, together with the rest
of the Corolla’s 2025 MY lineup.
