Renault unveiled a new hybrid SUV called the Grand Koleos at the Busan Motor Show in Korea. Interestingly, this model shares nothing with the previous generation Koleos, as it is heavily based on a Geely SUV. As indicated by its proportions and styling, the Renault Grand Koleos is a twin model to the Geely Xingyue L that debuted in 2021. However, as the first product of the partnership between Geely and Renault, it features more than a few redesigned body panels.
The front adopts the characteristic
Renault grille and bumper intakes, with new LED graphics on the headlights. The
profile looks familiar but the sheet metal is new and the greenhouse has been
slightly revised towards the back. On the other hand, the rear end is carried
over with small changes on the bumper and tailgate. The front features
Renault’s signature grille and bumper intakes, along with new LED graphics on
the headlights. While the profile appears familiar, the sheet metal is new and
the greenhouse has been slightly revised towards the back. In contrast, the
rear end remains mostly unchanged, with only minor modifications to the bumper
and tailgate.
The company also showcased the Esprit
Alpine trim, the flagship of the lineup. This model is distinguished by blue
exterior accents, Alpine badging on the fenders, and unique 20-inch alloy
wheels. Inside, it features a dark-themed cabin with blue stitching and
Alcantara inserts. All trims come with a Geely-sourced triple 12.3-inch display
layout that covers most of the dashboard. In terms of footprint, the Renault
Grand Koleos measures 4,780 mm in length, with a wheelbase of
2,820 mm. This makes it larger than both the outgoing Koleos and
the EU-spec Austral and Espace SUVs. The interior is available exclusively in a
five-seater configuration, offering a generous boot capacity of 633 liters.
Like its twin, the Geely Xingyue L, the
Renault Grand Koleos rides on the CMA architecture, which is also used by the
Volvo XC40 and several models from Geely and Lynk & Co. Under the hood,
there are options for both ICE and hybrid powertrains, even though the platform
is also compatible with EV configurations. The electrified setup comprises a
turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and dual electric motors, producing a combined
242 hp. There is also a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline
engine, delivering 208 hp. In both cases, power is
transmitted to the front axle, with the ICE model also offering the option of
all-wheel drive.
The Renault Grand Koleos will be available
in Korea starting this fall, with the company already accepting applications of
interest. Currently, it is unclear if Renault plans to export the model to
other markets.
