Golf fans absolutely drool over big, cushy SUVs, so naturally, Lexus teamed up with a fancy golf brand to create a special version of the 2024 GX 550. This one-off, named the Malbon Edition, will tour across the rest of this year’s golf season. An intricate green theme makes the GX stand out from any other we’ve seen in the past. The wrap depicts a topographic map of the fairways on a golf course and includes bespoke Malbon Edition badges. Lexus has also finished the roof in white and installed a set of single-dish white wheels.
We’re not convinced by this choice of
wheels and think a set of flashy chrome pieces or gloss black rims would have
been more appropriate. But I’m not a car designer, and someone on the design
team obviously thought they looked good. A roof rack adds to the go-anywhere
appeal of the GX and supports a pair of large boxes from Pelican, boosting its
cargo-carrying capacity and serving as the perfect place to keep longer clubs,
including woods and drivers. A black Yakima side awning is also present.
Alterations have also been made to the
interior. The second row is equipped with plush captain’s chairs, and the third
row has been replaced with a pull-out storage box. This box is large enough to
fit four golf bags, golf balls, tees, shoes, and towels. Lexus and Malbon have
also crafted some unique steel scuff plates for the special GX 550.
This very special Lexus will make
appearances at the Oregon Buckets Club Golf Tournament, Columbia Edgewater,
IMSA Petit Le Mans, Road Atlanta, Buckets Club Tournament, The Grand Golf Club,
Lexus Maldon Invitational, and Miami Shores Country Club.
