After making its debut at the recent Chengdu Motor Show, the Zeekr 7X has now been officially launched in China. Deliveries of the brand’s first electric midsize SUV will start this month, with global markets set to receive the model in the coming months. Built on the PMA2+ platform which is derived from Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture and also used for the 007 sedan, the 7X is five-seater that measures 4,825 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, 1,666 mm tall and has wheelbase of 2,925 mm – ground clearance is 197 mm.

The platform features an 800V electrical architecture and is fitted with either a 75-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) ‘Golden Brick’ or 100-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) ‘Qilin’ battery. The base variant – one of three offered – is priced at 229,900 yuan and gets the smaller battery LFP powering a rear-mounted electric motor rated at 421 PS and 440 Nm of torque. In this configuration, the 7X will get from 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and offers up to 605 km of range following China’s highly generous CLTC standard. The mid-tier variant at 249,900 yuan uses the same electric motor but gets the larger NMC battery for more range at up to 780 km, while the century sprint time is down by 0.1 seconds.

As for the range-topper, it sells for 269,900 yuan and uses the NMC battery but gains another electric motor at the front for all-wheel drive. The total system output is 646 PS and 710 Nm, which enables a 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds and a range of up to 705 km. As is typical of Chinese automakers, detailed charging information isn’t readily available on Zeekr’s official website. Instead, the company says the 7X supports 5.5C charging – the ‘C’ indicates how many times a battery can be charged in one hour – and can get from a 10-80% state of charge (SoC) in 10.5 minutes via DC fast charging. This only applies to the base variant, with the NMC-equipped options requiring 15 minutes, indicating they support 4C charging instead. The 7X also has external power supplies that can deliver up to 60 kW DC or 3.3 kW AC. The 7X comes standard with air suspension but this is only for the AWD variant, with the system being an option for lesser options. What is exclusive to the AWD is an off-road mode for those who are feeling adventurous.

Design-wise, the 7X features cues seen on the 007, including flush door handles, a roof-mounted lidar sensor, full-width taillights and what the company calls a “smart light curtain.” The last item is essentially a 93-inch display that sits between the matrix LED headlamps and spans the front of the car. It incorporates over 1,800 individual LEDs and can be configured to display various graphics or notices to the surroundings. There’s also a frunk with 62 litres of storage volume to complement the rear boot that can hold 616 litres. The 7X’s interior is also similar to the 007, with a simple dashboard that is home to a 13.02-inch digital instrument cluster and 16-inch touchscreen with a mini-LED display at 3.5K resolution. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip powers the infotainment system, which comes with AI capability and is wired to a 21-speaker sound system.

Creature comforts inside the cabin include powered front seats with heating, ventilation, massage and memory functions, which are joined by three-zone climate control with B-pillar vents, a CN95 air filter and a smart fragrance system. For those who want the “tauke” experience, the 7X can be optioned with Nappa leather upholstery and there’s even something called a “rear electric sofa,” the latter transforming the rear into a lounge with seats that are featured-packed. We’re talking 134 degrees of backrest angle adjustment, a foot rest, a dedicated 6-inch touchscreen control panel as well as the same heating, ventilation, massage and memory functions as the front seats.

Other rear-seat luxuries offered are a 13-inch OLED display with 2K resolution, powered tray tables, a refrigerator integrated into the area just behind the front centre console, plus powered sunshades for a cinema-like experience. Like other Zeekr models, the 7X comes standard with plenty of advance driver assistance and safety systems, including active airbags, full-speed adaptive cruise control, active lane change assist, automatic parking assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and assist, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition and cross traffic alert.
