The Chery Tiggo 9 has received a mild facelift in China for the 2025 model year and is being introduced alongside a plug-in hybrid variant known as the Tiggo 9 C-DM. Styling changes for the new Tiggo 9 include a revised front grille that now features a thick surround as well as more vertical slats for the insert than before. The lower intake also loses its A-shaped structure in favour of a full-width look that swings upwards at the edges. This exterior is the same for the C-DM model, albeit with addition of a charging door on the body. Beyond these tweaks, the rest of the Tiggo 9 looks pretty much the same as before, including cues such as the flush pop-out door handles, “floating roof” and taillight graphics.

No change to the dimensions either, with the Tiggo 9 measuring 4,820 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, 1,699 mm tall and with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm – the C-DM model is 13 mm taller. Similarly, the interior retains same dashboard layout, controls and 24.6-inch curved display (12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen).

The Tiggo 9 is offered in five variants in China, with prices ranging from 152,900 to 203,900 yuan. All variants are powered by Chery’s Kunpeng 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine making 261 PS and 400 Nm of torque. Variants that are front-wheel drive come with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or Aisin-sourced eight-speed automatic as standard, while all-wheel drive options only get the latter. Performance-wise, the Tiggo 9 with FWD and the 7DCT will get from 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, while the 8AT version needs 7.9 seconds. The SUV in AWD guise with the 8AT needs 8.5 seconds to complete the same century sprint. It’s also worth pointing out that the company’s Continuous Damping Control (CDC) adaptive suspension is exclusive to variants fitted with the 8AT.

As for the Tiggo 9 C-DM, the range includes two variants that are priced at 165,900 yuan and 175,900 yuan respectively. Both share the same powertrain that features the company’s fifth-generation Acteco 1.5 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine serving up 156 PS and 220 Nm. It is paired with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and augmented by a front electric motor rated at 224 PS and 390 Nm. Together, the total system output is 381 PS and 610 Nm to enable a 0-100 km/h time of 8.8 seconds.

Power for the electric motor is provided by a ternary lithium battery pack with an energy capacity of 19.43 kWh, which provides up to 82 km of electric-only range following the WLTC standard (106 km if CLTC). According to Chery, the comprehensive cruising range in hybrid mode is over 1,400 km based on the WLTC. Charging the battery can be done with a DC input at a peak of 41 kW, with a 30-80% state of charge achieved in just 25 minutes. There’s also slower AC charging that gets the battery to a full charge in 3.5 hours, while a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system delivers up to 6.6 kW to power devices and accessories.

Available equipment for the Tiggo 9 includes LED headlamps, 20-inch wheels, Nappa leather upholstery, a 256-colour ambient lighting system, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, an eight-speaker Sony sound system and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems. The Tiggo 9 is also known as the Jaecoo J8 in overseas markets, and the three-row SUV was previously previewed here in pre-update form earlier this year ahead of an expected Q4 launch. At the time, we were told that the J8 is estimated to retail at around RM200k.
