Geely’s entry-level Geome EV brand (Geometry) has unveiled its rival to the BYD Dolphin. It’s called the Xingyuan EV and is expected to be priced from around 80,000 yuan, or the equivalent of just US$ 11,200. The Xingyuan EV has a cute and approachable design. It’s not trying to be too edgy or aggressive and has some similar design elements to Smart’s #1 and #3 models, particularly with its curvaceous headlights and LED daytime running lights. Other key styling elements include flush door handles, rounded taillights, and black plastic trim across the lower sections of the body.
Shoppers will be able to order the
Xingyuan EV in several interesting colors inspired by Haagen-Dazs ice cream
flavors, thanks to a partnership between the two firms. These colors include
Basil Green, Berry Powder, Mousse Silver, Truffle Grey, Milk White, Sea Salt
Blue, and Vanilla Beige.
Entry-level models feature a 30.12 kWh LFP
battery that drives a single electric motor with 78 hp or 58 kW. This model is
good for a claimed 310 km of range on the CLTC cycle. A larger
40.16 kWh LFP battery is available as well, mated to a more powerful 114 hp motor. The increased battery capacity lifts the range to 410
km.
Despite the car’s competitive starting
price, the interior is surprisingly well-equipped. Sitting in the center of the
dashboard is a large infotainment screen. A small screen for the instrument
cluster is also present. The company even added illuminated graphics of a city
on the passenger side of the dashboard and the door panels. Other key features
include two wireless smartphone charging pads, two cup holders, and a two-spoke
steering wheel.
BYD has been selling the Dolphin in
markets outside China since 2023, although it’s unclear if the Geome Xingyuan
EV will venture outside of its home market anytime soon.
