Cadillac has revealed an assortment of new details about the redesigned XT5 in China. It’s a major leap forward and one that makes the US-spec model feel ancient. Starting outside, there’s a “very American” design with a wide grille that is flanked by split lighting units. Cadillac went on to say the model has adaptive anti-glare high-beams that automatically avoid pedestrians as well as oncoming vehicles.
Moving down the sides, we can see taut bodywork and a ‘floating’ roof. They’re joined by 20- or 21-inch wheels, which can be backed up by a six-piston Brembo braking system with red calipers. The rear end has a heavily stylized hands-free power liftgate with an integrated spoiler. The model also has a dual exhaust system and vertical taillights that are connected by a chrome bar. Like most redesigned models, the XT5 is larger than its predecessor. Length is up 75 mm to 4,888 mm, while width grows 54 mm to come in at 1,957 mm. The model also has 158 mm of ground clearance, which is an increase of nearly an 22 mm.
The interior draws inspiration from the
Lyriq and features a 33-inch curved display as well as a 126 color ambient
lighting system. They’re joined by semi-aniline leather seats, which feature
thicker padding as well as backrests that adjust 23° front and 5° rear. Other
highlights include a panoramic sunroof, a floating center console, and an
air-cooled 15W wireless smartphone charger. They’re joined by wood and aluminum
trim as well as a crystal-like knob that features a 3D Cadillac shield motif. Buyers
will also find 24 storage compartments, a 15-speaker AKG audio system, and a
next-generation digital rearview mirror with a 9.3-inch display. The latter has
a higher resolution as well as a 25% larger field of view.
Cadillac didn’t release many performance
specs, but confirmed all XT5s are equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine
and a 48V mild-hybrid system. They’re joined by a nine-speed automatic
transmission and China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has
previously revealed the crossover has 227 hp. The company
didn’t say much else about the model, but confirmed a twin-clutch all-wheel
drive system that can send 100% of rear power to either wheel. The XT5 also has
an adaptive damping suspension that adjusts 100 times per second to deliver a
comfortable ride.
Speaking of technology, there are 22
active safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and
automatic emergency braking. Buyers will also find rear-cross traffic alert,
side blind zone warning, and lane departure warning. Pricing starts at ¥ 279,900
(US$ 39,458) and climbs to ¥ 339,900 (US$ 47,917) for the Platinum variant.
