Volvo’s 90/90 Day turned into a 90/90/90 event as the company teased the upcoming ES90 at the end of the EX90 and XC90 presentation. It came as a bit of a surprise, but the company has embraced a ‘one more thing’ approach as of late. While the automaker didn’t have anything to say about the car, other than it’s coming in March of 2025, they showed its silhouette. The model appears to be an evolution of the S90, but it may be equipped with a roof-mounted lidar sensor like the EX90. Additional details are hard to make out, but we can see a strong shoulder line and a familiar greenhouse. They’re joined by new taillights and a trunk with an integrated spoiler.
Volvo is staying tight-lipped, but
previous reports have suggested the model will ride on the SPA2 platform that
underpins the EX90. The connection to the latter will apparently be deep as the
two models will reportedly share a 111 kWh battery pack. It’s possible the
vehicles could also share powertrains and, if that’s the case, we can expect
dual-motor all-wheel drive systems with outputs of 402 hp and
510 hp.
The ES90 is rumored to measure 4,990 mm long, 1,945 mm wide, and 1,547 mm tall with a wheelbase spanning 3,102 mm. If those numbers pan
out, the model would be 100 mm shorter than the S90, but have an
extra 41 mm between the wheels. The ES90 is expected to be built
in China, which could mean facing stiff tariffs in several markets, including
North America and Europe. However, we’ll likely learn more in the coming weeks.
