Over the years, we’ve lost count of how many automakers have introduced “Black Editions” of their models. However, Genesis stands out with an honorable mention for its new GV80 Black and GV80 Coupe Black, which both sport an eye-catching, truly dark-themed design. These SUVs aren’t Genesis’ first foray into Black Editions, as they follow the flagship G90 Black sedan, which debuted in Korea in March 2024.
The black exterior is enhanced by matching
accents on the grille, bumper intakes, emblems, roof racks, and bumper
moldings, with the dark metallic Genesis lettering on the tailgate adding to
the overall effect. Even the headlight bezels are finished in black, keeping
distractions from other colors to a minimum. Both the GV80 and the GV80 Coupe
ride on a set of 22-inch alloy wheels finished in – you guessed it – glossy
black. The Korean brand says the black floating center caps are unique to the
Genesis Black vehicles, bringing a little touch of Rolls-Royce magic.
The dark theme extends to the interior,
where black finishes adorn the knobs, switches, and glass accents. The quilted
leather upholstery, premium floor mats, and headliner all feature the same
black finish. A particularly cool touch is the wood garnish, which appears on
the dashboard, center console, and door panels.
The GV80 has been upgraded for the 2025
model year as part of a mid-lifecycle update, coinciding with the debut of the
GV80 Coupe. Besides the mild exterior tweaks focused on the redesigned bumpers,
the SUV benefits from a refreshed interior with a sleek 27-inch OLED display.
Genesis has yet to confirm whether the
GV80 Black and GV80 Coupe Black will be available with every powertrain option.
It’s also unclear if these models will be exclusive to Koreaor if they will be
offered in other markets as well.
