Subaru is pulling the plug on the Outback in Japan, but as a last hurrah, it has launched a final, special variant of its long-running crossover. Named the Legacy Outback 30th Anniversary Edition, this swan song packs a series of upgrades and will be capped at an exclusive run of only 500 units. A plethora of visual enhancements differentiate the special variant from the regular model. For example, it sits on new 18-inch matte black wheels, includes blacked-out bumpers, arches, and skirts, while also rocking black wing mirrors, a black grille, and black roof rails. A rear spoiler, also finished in black has been fitted to the car. Special badges complete the exterior alterations.
The most significant upgrade made to the
30th Anniversary Edition is found under the skin and comes in the form of
Hitachi Astemo SFRDs (Sensitive Frequency Response Dampers), which have been
tuned by STI and installed up front. A new set of dampers tuned by STI have
also been fitted to the rear.
Rounding out the modifications are a
handful of unique interior features. For example, a thumping Harmon Kardon
audio system with 10 speakers and a subwoofer has been fitted. New
ivory-colored and black Nappa leather with silver contrast stitching adds to
the model’s appeal. The door panels are particularly eye-catching and have
‘30th Anniversary’ stitching, just to ensure occupants never forget that this
is no ordinary Subaru.
As is common for limited-run models like
this in Japan, Subaru will host a lottery if there are more than 500 willing
buyers for the special Legacy Outback. The order books will be open on November
10 and remain open until March 2025. Pricing details have yet to be announced.
