Kia published the first teasers of a new SUV offering for the Indian market. The yet-unnamed model is expected to bridge the gap between the Sonet and Seltos in the local SUV lineup, offering minivan-style proportions, generous equipment and an “innovative” seating layout. The new Kia could be called Clavis or Syros, with both nameplates having been trademarked by the automaker. Its launch will be part of the “Kia 2.0 Strategy” for the region, and will likely take place in early 2025.
The dark teasers reveal the boxy
silhouette of the SUV that kind of looks like a baby version of the Kia
Carnival minivan with a flat roofline and a nearly vertical tailgate. The
profile features a strong B-pillar, which is reminiscent of the Hyundai Casper
and Inster. We can also see the sculpted fenders, the sharp LED headlights, and
the L-shaped taillights around the rear windshield.
As reported by Autocar India, Kia said
that the “lounge-like” interior will have “futuristic features and an
innovative seating layout”. Equipment will likely include a digital cockpit,
powered and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a Bose audio system, up to
six airbags, and plenty of safety features.
Local media report that the SUV will ride
on a new architecture, offering a choice between ICE and EV powertrains. At
launch, it is expected to be available with a naturally-aspirated 1.2-liter
gasoline engine, powering the front wheels via a manual or an automatic
gearbox.
We expect to learn more about the upcoming
Kia within the next few months, ahead of its market launch in 2025.
