McLaren
650S Spider Al Sahara 79
McLaren Automotive has
unveiled the 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 at the Dubai International Motor Show.
The vehicle is exclusively developed for the Middle Eastern region by McLaren
Special Operations (MSO), the department of the company responsible for bespoke
craftsmanship.
‘Al Sahara’ in Arabic
means ‘desert’ which is also the inspiration for the subtle shimmer found on
the pearlescent white gold paintjob. That shimmer effect is obtained through
the addition of 24 carat gold particles. The number 79 in the name is a
reference to gold, that has the atomic number of 79. The car’s appearance is
further customised by lightweight gloss black forged alloy wheels and carbon
fibre side intakes, front splitter and rear diffuser. MSO branding is seen on
the carbon-fibre side blades.
The interior gets black
and Almond White leather upholstered electrically-adjustable sports seats that
also feature contrast stitching. The paint scheme on the exterior is carried
inside on the steering wheel, centre console, door panels and AC vents. Adding
to the rich feel are the switches and heating vents that have been given a dark
gold finish.
No mechanical changes
have made their way into this special edition, so power comes from same
3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine. This unit boasts output figures of 650S PS (641
bhp) and 678 Nm (500 lb.ft.) of torque, enough to propel the sports car from
zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.0 seconds flat and on to a top speed of 204 mph (329
km/h). The 650S Spider gives a combined fuel efficiency of 24.2 mpg and carbon
emissions of 275 g/km.
The Middle Eastern
region is among the places that have the highest levels of MSO customisation
globally with more than 25% models featuring some sort of bespoke preference.
The Al Sahara edition retails for AED 1,456,308.
