GMC Sierra All Terrain X Special Edition

GMC pulled the wraps off its new Sierra
special edition, the All Terrain X. Starting with the relatively capable Sierra
All Terrain, that extra letter adds a few functional upgrades to one of our
favorite fullsize trucks.
GMC product planners ditched
the standard All Terrain’s Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tires in favor of some
Wrangler DuraTrac MTs. The more aggressive tires will surely imbue the X with
some added security and stability off-road, fitting for the truck’s mission.
The other dynamic update is a new, freer-flowing exhaust system, bumping the
5.3L V-8’s horsepower rating from 355 to 365 while adding a more aggressive
tone.
Other updates include LED headlights,
body-color door handles and styling accents, and black exterior mirrors, window
moldings, and B-pillars. A bed-mounted sport bar, seemingly cribbed from the
smaller Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Boss, provides a mounting point for an
accessory LED off-road lighting package. The 18-inch aluminum wheels are
painted with an X-specific black motif. The All Terrain X will be an option
package on the Sierra SLT crew cab with the short cargo box, meaning it will be
fairly well equipped with GMC-trademark luxury features.
As with the aforementioned Trail Boss,
suspension settings remain the same as on lesser models. Suffice it to say,
buyers of the All Terrain X shouldn’t expect Ford Raptor (or even Toyota TRD
Pro) levels of off-road performance from their Sierra. However, the tires alone
will add a measure of off-road confidence and styling verve, and we bet the
Sierra’s small-block V-8 will sound great bellowing from the new exhaust
system. GMC hasn’t announced pricing on the truck, but if it echoes the pricing
schemes of its Chevy Silverado and Colorado off-road packages, don’t plan on it
costing much more than the standard All Terrain.
According to GMC, the All Terrain X
should hit dealers in a few months, so prospective buyers should start clearing
garage space now. Spring is just around the corner, after all.
