Ducati Supersport S
The pictures, which have made their way on to
several forums and websites, show that like the original SuperSport, the new
Supersport uses a trellis frame.
Although it clearly shares some of the
Panigale’s styling cues, this bike isn’t part of the sports focused Panigale
family. Unlike the Panigale, the Supersport’s clip-on bars are set quite high,
suggesting it’s not about outright sports performance.
The S model pictured has Ohlins forks
with Brembo brakes, possibly an adjustable screen, and what looks like quite a
large seat, which similarly indicates that, like the original SS, it’s going to
be a bike that aims to strike a balance between performance and comfort.
Reports says that the bike is powered by
the engine from the Hypermotard 939 – a 937 cc, liquid-cooled, four-valve L-Twin
that makes 113 hp at 9,000 rpm and 72.2 lb/ft torque at 7,500 rpm.
There’s no official word from Ducati yet
but it’s reasonable to expect that an official unveiling will come at this
year’s Eicma show in November (or possibly at Intermot in October) after
inevitable spy shots and information gets drip fed from Bologna in the months
leading up to the shows.
The Supersport S is one of two new
models shown at this year's World Ducati Week - the other is a limited edition
1299 Panigale S - the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario.
