The next-generation 2019 Audi A6 has already been
spied on multiple occasions but now the spy shooters have managed to catch the
next-generation S6 undergoing testing on the Nürburgring.
The high-performance
model is distinguished by a four-tailpipe exhaust system and lightweight alloy
wheels that are backed up by a beefier braking system. The production model
will go even further as we can expect unique bumpers, a specific-grille and
special mirror caps among other things that will separate it from the plain
vanilla models of the series.
Performance specifications remain a bit of a
mystery, but early speculation suggests the car could use the twin-turbo 2.9-liter
V6 from the Porsche Panamera 4S. The engine
develops 440 hp and 548 Nm of torque.
It remains unclear how much the engine could produce
in the S6 but the outgoing model has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that develops
450 hp and 550 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to a
seven-speed S tronic transmission and a quattro all-wheel drive system which
enables the sedan to accelerate from 0-97 km/h in 4.4 seconds before hitting a
limited top speed of 250 km/h.
One of the S6's main rivals will be the new BMW
M550i xDrive that gets a 456 hp and 480 lb-ft 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine
catapulting it to 97 km/h in under 4 seconds.
