Beijing-Hyundai announced another China-only model this month dubbed the Hyundai
Reina. Weeks after the near-production model’s motorshow presentation, the
production Hyundai Reina has surfaced in daylight, spy photos published by
ifeng.com reveal.
The Hyundai Reina measures 4,300 mm in length, 1,705
mm in width and 1,460 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,570 mm. Designed
using the fluidic sculpture 2.0 design language with the Cascading grille –
Hyundai’s latest signature design element, the Hyundai Reina is based on the previous
generation Hyundai Verna. It will slot below the Hyundai Verna Yuena introduced
last year, to challenge the likes of the Chevrolet Sail.
Besides airbags, the Hyundai Reina will reportedly
come with VSM (Vehicle Stability Management, ESC (Electronic Stability
Control), ESS (Emergency Stop Signal) and HAC (Hill-start Assist Control).
Beijing-Hyundai has confirmed Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife smartphone
integration compatibility and wireless charging for the budget sedan. More
equipment details are still awaited.
The Hyundai Reina gets its power from a 95
PS 1.4-litre petrol engine as standard. Transmission choices include 5-speed
manual and 4-speed automatic. The company hasn’t announced when the Reina will
hit the market, but it looks like an H2 2017 launch is likely. As with the
Mistra and Celesta, the Reina’s assignment could be within the purview of
China.
