The next-generation Mercedes-AMG A45 has been spied
testing for the very first time and to say it has a lot to live up to would be
an understatement.
The outgoing A45 pushed the hot hatch industry to
places it’d never been before and while the prototype pictured retains largely
the same shape, modifications to the car will be extensive.
The new A-Class and A45 will use a
revised version of Mercedes’ MFA platform, developed in partnership with
Renault. Additionally, the updated car will receive styling inspired by the
Concept A Sedan, particularly with the sharper and narrow headlights visible on
this prototype.
The power for the 2018 or 2019
model year A45 will come from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
However, grunt should reach new heights and a touch over 400 hp seems
inevitable. A global premiere should happen early or
mid-next year.
