Fresh spy shots of the Hyundai i20 facelift have
surfaced online courtesy Team-BHP. The test mule was spotted testing in
Chennai, close to HMIL manufacturing unit. The mid-life refresh will bring the
i20 in line with Hyundai’s current family look.
Finished in Sleek Silver, the 2018 Hyundai i20 test
mile sports dark 10-spoke alloy wheels. These are different from the Mercedes
CLA-like two-tone alloys spotted in the past. The partially camouflaged nose
reveals the new ‘Cascading’ grille design with a black mesh. Upon closer
inspection of the front end, LED DRLs appear to be tucked away right under the
fog lamp. The number plate has migrated from the rear bumper to the tailgate.
Changes to the rear end will also include new taillight graphics.
The current engine and transmission options will be
carried over. Currently, Hyundai offers the i20 with a 1.2 L Kappa petrol
engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, a 1.4 L Gamma petrol engine
mated to a 4-speed automatic, and a 1.4 L U2 CRDi diesel engine mated to a
6-speed manual transmission.
Hyundai is expected to present the updated Elite i20
at the Auto Expo scheduled February 7, 2018, onwards. It will be the second
generation i20’s first major update since its launch in August 2014 in India.
The Hyundai i20 retails for INR 5.29-9.15 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) currently.
The update is unlikely to bring about any major changes in pricing.
