Datsun has announced that it will give the new Datsun Cross its world debut in Indonesia on January 18. The crossover will be Datsun’s third compact model in Indonesia after the GO hatchback and GO+ MPV.

Said to be designed for the Indonesian market, the Datsun Cross will craft out a new segment with its crossover design and high ground clearance, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance brand claims. The new model will have “smart and compact” body design, with agility akin to a professional athlete, the carmaker adds.

It’s clear that the production Datsun Cross is a faithful rendition of the GO-Cross Concept from 2015. The showcar’s yellow paint, LED light guides and distinctive independent round fog lamps flanking the grille are present here – in fact, the finalised face is similar to the showcar’s, save for realistic lighting. Also visible are lower body black cladding and a “skid plate”.

The Datsun Cross is likely a Indonesian Low Cost Green Car (LCGC), and if so, it should carry the same HR12DE 1.2 litre engine with 68 PS/104 Nm as the rest of the local Datsun range. The Indonesian market’s core Low MPV segment has adopted SUV styling of late (Honda BR-V, Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Rush/Daihatsu Terios) but that trend has yet to affect models from the segment below (Toyota Calya/Daihatsu Sigra), which the GO+ plays in.
