Aston Martin recently used the Geneva Motor Show to
introduce the Lagonda Vision concept but it appears the company’s upcoming
production model will be a crossover instead of a sedan.
Auto Express reports the model will be launched in
2021 and was previewed by a 40 percent scale model which was on display in
Geneva. At the time, Aston Martin said scale model was created to “illustrate
how the Lagonda design language could be adapted for the future.”
The crossover could be called the Varekai and it
will reportedly be based on the Aston Martin DBX. Little else is known about
the crossover but Aston Martin has previously said “Lagonda aims to be the
world’s first zero emission luxury brand.” As a result, upcoming Lagonda models
will be electric vehicles with autonomous driving technology.
The Varekai would become
Lagonda’s first crossover since the ill-fated Lagonda concept debuted in 2009.
The concept was billed as the “pre-eminent long-distance automobile” but the
four-seat crossover was almost universally panned at its unveiling. The company
had intended for the concept to help revive the Lagonda brand but that didn’t
occur until several years later when the automaker introduced the limited
edition Lagonda Taraf.
