Expected to debut at the Paris Motor Show this fall, the 2019
T-Roc R looks virtually identical to the standard model but there are some
subtle styling touches which indicate this is the high-performance variant.
Starting up front, the T-Roc R eschews traditional fog lights and they’re replaced
by new vents which will likely improve engine cooling. Additional changes are
limited but the production model will have a modestly revised grille with R
badging.
The most noticeable modifications occur further back
as the T-Roc R has a sport-tuned suspension which significantly lowers the ride
height. The high-performance variant has also been equipped with a new rear
bumper that has been designed to accommodate a four-tailpipe sports exhaust
system.
Carscoops's spy photographers haven’t gotten close enough to
snap interior photos but the T-Roc R-Line Interior Package gives us a pretty
good idea about what to expect. The package includes a leather-wrapped steering
wheel, two-tone seats and a black headliner. Other highlights include stainless
steel pedals, door sill plates and special floor mats.
Power will likely be provided by a familiar
turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 310 PS and 400 Nm of torque in the Golf R. Those figures will likely
carryover to the T-Roc R and the engine should be paired to a seven-speed
dual-clutch transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system.
