In time for the festive season, Maruti
Suzuki will launch the second generation Ertiga in India. Team-BHP user
'sidindica' has shared spy shots of a test mule from New Delhi. As per the
source, the variant was the petrol since he was unable to hear the discernable
diesel clatter. The heavy camouflage is successful in hiding much of the
exterior design. However, there are unlikely to be significant variations in
the appearance of the India-spec Maruti Ertiga and the model launched in
Indonesia last month. As the spy shots reveal, the test unit puts on the same
multi-spoke alloy wheels as the Indonesian-spec model.
Launched last month, the Ertiga for
Indonesia packs the new 1.5 L K15B petrol engine. This 4-cylinder unit makes
104.7 PS and 138 Nm. It will replace the outgoing model's 1.4 L petrol engine
in the Indian market as well. Transmission choice will include a 5-speed manual
and a 4-speed automatic. The latter was spotted testing in India earlier this
month. The 1.3 L DDiS diesel engine will be replaced by new 1.5 L diesel mill
developed by Suzuki. However, its availability right from launch remains
doubtful as it is not deployable yet.
The new Maruti Ertiga is bigger than its
predecessor by 130 mm in length, 40 mm in width, and 5 mm in height. This
should translate to increased cabin space for the occupants. Notable features
on offer will be projector headlamps, LED stop lamps, 15-inch alloy wheels,
7-inch Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android
Auto support, automatic climate control, and a flat-bottom steering wheel with
phone and audio controls.
As reported in October 2017, the launch
of the new Maruti Ertiga is scheduled this August. There are rumours of Maruti
moving sales of the Ertiga to Nexa outlets with the new generation. A crossover
variant of the Ertiga is reported to join the lineup by 2020 which could become
MSIL's flagship product.
