Here is the test mule of the Hyundai AH2 (codename) ahead of its October month launch. The latest batch provides a good look at the new car's outline. The pictures reveal an i10-like B-pillar, a large greenhouse, a clamshell hood, silver-finish on the interior door handles, vertically positioned central AC vents, and 14-inch steel wheels shod with Ceat 'FUELSMARRT' tires. Underpinning the small car is the earlier i10's HA platform. The new model will reportedly replace the Eon and challenge the Maruti Wagon R, Renault Kwid 1.0, and the Tata Tiago.

Powering the Hyundai AH2 will be a new version of the 1.1-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that served the Santro Xing. For the now-defunct model, the motor produced a maximum power of 63 PS and a peak torque of 98 Nm. The 2018 Hyundai Santro will feature a BS6-compliant version that will be available with an optional Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The five-speed AMT will be marketed as 'Smart Auto'. The transmission will reportedly make it to the next-generation Grand i10 and Elite i20.


The new entry-level hatchback will offer ABS, driver and co-driver safety belt reminder, manual override for central locking system, dual front airbags, rear parking sensors and speed alert system as a part of the standard equipment list.

Last month, HMIL kickstarted the 'Hyundai naamkaran' contest to invite suggestion for the market name of its new entry-level car. 30% of the respondents have suggested that the Santro nameplate should be brought back.
