Audi has officially revealed the all-new A6 L at the Guangzhou
Auto Show. As with its predecessor, the C8 generation-based A6 L offers a longer
wheelbase than the standard car. In this case, the wheelbase grows by 100 mm to 3,024 mm. Consequently, the overall length of the car
increases to 5,050 mm.
It’s worth noting that the A6 L’s wheelbase is
longer than the wheelbase of the standard A8 (not available in China), which
stands at 2,998 mm (118 in). With that in mind, there should be no shortage of
space in the cabin, particularly for rear seat passengers who should enjoy more
legroom and knee room.
The A6 L will be the only A6 sedan
model Audi will sell in China, as the standard-wheelbase version won’t be
available there. Styling wise, the long-wheelbase A6 looks just like the
shorter version, bar the slightly longer rear doors.
At launch, the A6 L offers four- and six-cylinder
engines. For starters, there’s a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder gasoline engine
available in two states of tune. It makes 190 PS and 320 Nm of torque in the entry-level guise and 224 PS and 350 Nm of torque in the mid-range specification.
Customers can also opt for a 3.0-liter TFSI V6
engine with mild hybrid tech that delivers 340 PS and 500 Nm of torque. All engines are mated as standard to a seven-speed S-tronic
dual-clutch transmission. The V6 also gets quattro all-wheel drive as standard.
Later on, Audi is expected to introduce a hybrid version in the A6 L range.
The new Audi A6 L will be built by the
FAW-Volkswagen joint venture exclusively for the Chinese market. Sales will
begin in early 2019.
