MG has arrived at the 2018 Guangzhou Auto Show with
a battery-electric version of the ZS, called the eZS, which is the brand’s
first zero-emission product. Despite its public unveiling in the People’s Republic, details about
the MG eZS are very scarce at the moment.
Autocar reports that
it’s probably powered by a 148 PS electric motor mounted at
the front, and backed up by a battery with an undisclosed capacity.
In the old NEDC cycle, the electric SUV is believed
to be able to travel for 431 km before having to visit a charging
station. The new MG eZS will probably go on sale in China sometime next year,
although it could arrive in Europe as well later on, as part of the SAIC-owned
brand’s ambitions to expand its global operations and become an SUV maker.
In the United Kingdom, the outgoing MG ZS range
includes three different models: the Explore, Excite and Exclusive, powered by
either a 1.5-liter petrol or a turbo’d 1.0-liter GDI, depending on the selected
variant. The former puts out 106 PS and is offered with a
five-speed manual gearbox, whereas the latter is good for 111 PS and works in conjunction with a six-speed auto.
OTR pricing for the MG ZS range varies between
£ 12,495 and £ 15,795 in the UK. So, if the
MG eZS launches here, it will likely cost over £ 20,000.
