As their smallest
and most affordable crossover, the T-Cross is ready to start printing money for
Volkswagen. Pricing will be announced in due course, but it will cost more than
the platform-sharing Polo and less than the T-Roc, with high-end models
expected to dive into the € 20,000+ (US$ 22,785+) territory.
Opting for the
range-topping version of the T-Cross will get you a 150 PS 1.5-liter petrol engine with front-wheel drive (VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive
system won’t be available at all). The range will likely be expanded with a few
additional engines and probably some special editions, though right now there’s
no info on what VW has in store for its smallest crossover.
Nonetheless, XTomi
has rendered the T-Cross as the GTI that, in all likelihood, will never happen.
It’s wearing a Polo GTI-inspired body kit, complete with identical wheels,
lower ground clearance and GTI badges adorning the front fenders and grille. If
it ever came to fruition, such a model would require a sportier chassis and,
probably, the 2.0-liter four-banger that powers the Polo GTI.
In the hot hatch,
it produces 200 PS (197 hp) and 320 Nm of torque, and is
mated to either a six-speed DSG or a manual gearbox, with the latter being
available as an optional extra.
