First launched in 2011, the Aston Martin Vantage V12
Zagato was a fitting tribute to the iconic DB4 GT Zagato of the 1960s. The V12 powertrain combined with
the sensual lines penned by Zagato was a marriage made in heaven. The thing is,
Aston Martin only built 150 Zagato-bodied Vantage V12s for road use and all of
them were snapped up pretty quickly, despite a starting price of £ 330,000
(US$ 528,000) excluding taxes.
Nevertheless, if you’re in the market for a Vantage V12
Zagato but don’t want to get a used example, we’ve got good news. The Italian coachbuilder has
decided to bring back the Vantage V12 Zagato for an additional production run
of 38 units. They won’t be built by Aston Martin, however. With the British
luxury car manufacturer’s blessing, Zagato Milano has struck a deal with
Switzerland’s AF Racing AG, a traditional motorsport partner for Aston Martin
as well as a partner in the Valkyrie hypercar project.
AF Racing will handle production at its subsidiary
Vynamic GmbH, with the project also marking the launch of the Swiss company’s
R-Reforged brand. Each of the 38 cars will be commissioned by AF Racing AG with
each client and in close cooperation with Zagato Milano. The car’s official (and long)
name of Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato Heritage Twins by R-Reforged hints at
the fact that there will be two versions available: Coupé and Speedster. This
is quite remarkable, since Aston never built a Speedster body style, at least
as far as we know. As the photos reveal, though, the Speedster variant takes
inspiration from the Vanquish Zagato Speedster.
The ultra-limited production run that’s evenly split
between the Coupé and the Speedster will honor Zagato’s 100th anniversary. “The
Aston Martin V12 Zagato Heritage Twins by R-Reforged are an exceptional tribute
to our very own heritage. They are the most beautiful retro-future
(neo-classic) designed Zagatos to be ever produced,” said Zagato Milano CEO Dr.
Andrea Zagato.
That’s quite a bold statement, given the stunning
models launched in recent years, but who are we to argue with a man whose last
name is Zagato? Deliveries of the two limited run Vantage V12s will start in
the fourth quarter of 2019.
