First images of the Chinese-spec 2020 Skoda Rapid
have leaked online. The Indian-spec next-gen Skoda Rapid due in 2021 will look
different and will likely be more advanced. It will be based on the MQB A0 IN
platform and arrive in 2021.
The next-gen Skoda Rapid for China seen here is most
likely be based on the same PQ25 platform as the first-gen model. On the
outside, it is a much sharper looking car. It now gets a more angular front
radiator grille which has grown sleeker than before. The upper grille is
flanked by newly designed headlamps which look sleeker and aggressive. The fog
lamps have been repositioned, and below them, sits a wider lower grille which
stretches across the width of the front fascia. Overall, the front-end is
somewhat reminiscent of the Skoda Scala.
On the sides, the new, 16-inch machine-finished
alloy wheels add a flair of sportiness to the overall design, while at the
rear, there are newly designed, sleeker inspired tail lamps and faux chrome
exhaust muffler tips. The overall silhouette of the new Rapid now looks more
dynamic and elegant than before. The understated design may not appeal those
who have an eye for the recently unveiled 2020 Hyundai Verna, though.
The Chinese-spec 2020 Skoda Rapid measures 4,512 mm
in length, 1,706 mm in width, and has a 1,469 mm height. The old model's
length, width and height are 4,512 mm, 1,706 mm and 1,469 mm respectively. It
has a wheelbase of 2,603 mm, which is the same as that of the outgoing model.
Under the hood, it carries over the 111 1.5L naturally aspirated
petrol engine.
