It’s hard to find a cooler travel trailer than the
Bowlus Road Chief created by aviation legend Hawley Bowlus in 1934 and
perfected ever since.
Earlier this year, the manufacturer of retro-styled
aluminum trailers unveiled the “Endless Highways” model priced at an
eye-watering US$ 185,000. Now it’s time for a limited-run version of said model
called the “Wave Bespoke Edition.” As you can imagine, it’s more expensive than
the model on which it’s based: US$ 225,000 to be exact.
That’s about 4.5 times the base price of a Porsche
Macan like the one towing it in the photos. Taking inspiration from the world
of racing yachts, the Wave Bespoke Edition is made of solid 2024 aircraft-grade
aluminum, fit to a 1/1000 of an inch and polished by hand to a mirror finish.
The interior is adorned with walnut, birch and
anodized aluminum trim, and features organic (vegan) seating fabric with a
matte texture resembling soft suede in Marina Del Rey Blue. Seating surfaces
also feature Main Sail white contrast piping.
The bedroom features headboards (a first for the
Bowlus Road Chief) in Marina Del Rey Blue, mirroring the camper trailer’s
trademark curves. The two-person bedroom also comes with specialty 100 percent
linen bedding in a color combination of oyster and bastion blue.
Other distinctive features include the Bowlus Road
Chief spine made in aluminum with Marina Del Rey Blue piping, yacht-quality
Walnut & Holly flooring with matching Walnut wood tables complete with
table linens, fine meteorological instruments, and a mounted Bowlus Road Chief
branded journal. For those who want to spoil the retro theme, there are mounts
for tablets in the bedroom and living room.
The trailer’s electrical power system is designed
for long term off-grid adventures, offering enough power for extended 7-day
remote outings. If that’s not long enough, an optional solar panel allows
virtually unlimited time off the grid.
