Shortly after the all-new 2021
Kia K5/Optima was unveiled, Russian publication Kolesa has rendered how it
could look in estate guise. The front half of the Optima / K5 Wagon presented
remains identical to the sedan but the roofline has been extended and the car’s
tail-end has been slightly stretched. The striking LED taillights and light bar
of the sedan has been retained and arguably suits the shade of a wagon even
better.
One area of the Optima Wagon
that we’re particularly fond of is the sharp shape of the D-pillar that
includes a piece of chrome trim. At this time, it’s unclear of the K5/Optima
will ever be sold as a wagon. Sure, the previous-generation Optima was offered
as a Sportwagon and it too looked very nice. However, the new model will be
available in fewer markets than its predecessor and one region where it won’t
be sold is in Europe, a market that would likely be the strongest for a
possible new estate variation.
Clearly, the South Korean
automaker only wants to sell the new Optima in markets where it thinks it could
prove popular and Europe isn’t among them. However, consumers in the United
States will be pleased to know that they will be offered the new car.
Beyond its new eye-catching
exterior design, the latest-generation Optima also features a vastly improved
interior that includes a new widescreen infotainment system, flat-bottomed
steering wheel, and some other very nice trimmings.
