A cruiser based around the architecture of the Indian manufacturer’s now well-established and popular 650 pair, the Continental GT and Interceptor, the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 will be added among the range flagships as a slinkier, more comfort orientated option. Set to provide a good value, yet more potent alternative to the smaller Honda CMX 500 Rebel, the Royal Enfield Super Meteor has been previewed for some months in a drip-feed of spy shots by eagle-eyed Indian enthusiasts.
From these we can see Royal Enfield has
borrowed some elements from the stunning KX Concept it
unveiled at EICMA in 2018, a model that wowed audiences and formally heralded
it as global force with a keen eye for design.
While we will reserve judgement for the
final version when the covers come off, Royal Enfield appears to have toned
things down a fair bit, but has previously suggested the round headlamp,
slender fuel tank and alloy wheels will make it over. Though the striking name
might look to be a continuation of the Meteor nameplate, as used on the
recently launched 350cc roadster, it in fact harks right back to a model
exported to the US between 1952 and 1962 when it operated as a British owned company,
before then being replaced by the Interceptor.
The Super Meteor is one of several new
models the ambitious Indian firm - the largest of the big bike firms in its
native land - plans to launch over the next couple of years amid soaring sales
globally.
