Kia has officially announced the reveal of the EV9 concept car through a teaser published on Instagram. The fully electric EV9 will become Kia’s flagship electric SUV, with the previewing concept debuting on November 11, at 8 pm GST (3 pm EST).
The teaser doesn’t show much but from the
silhouette of the concept car and from its name, we suspect that it will have a
similar footprint to the Kia Telluride which is the largest SUV currently in
the company’s model range. Furthermore, the boxy shape, the flat roofline, and
the packaging of the EV-dedicated architecture could mean that the EV9 comes
with three rows of seats.
The model will most likely share its
underpinnings with the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 7 which was teased a few weeks
ago. This means it could get an AWD variant with a dual-motor setup and a
combined output of 308 hp, plus a large 100 kWh battery
featuring 800-volt technology.
In 2020, Kia pledged to unveil seven
dedicated BEV models by 2027. The first one was the EV6 hatchback that debuted
a few months ago introducing the E-GMP platform. alongside the Hyundai Ioniq 5
sibling. A stretched version of this scalable architecture will most likely
serve as the base for the EV9 Concept despite the noticeable size difference. We
suspect that the styling of the EV9 concept will be largely adopted by the
production version, although we have to wait for the unveiling to see how many
futuristic details will need to be toned down before the SUV reaches showrooms.
