A few days after the teaser video, Kia shows more of the fourth-generation Carens in a series of official sketches before its debut on December 16. Aesthetically, the new Carens makes a leap forward compared to the previous generation that was sold between 2012 and 2018 as a traditional minivan. The new model adopts an SUV-style silhouette with higher ground clearance, two-box proportions, and adventurous styling cues while integrating Kia’s latest design language called “Opposites United“.
The aggressive DRLs above the main
headlights are expanded towards the sculpted lines on the fenders, and there’s
an aluminum-style surround on the lower air intake. Moreover, the black A-pillars
match the plastic cladding on the wheelarches and side sills while creating a
floating roof effect in combination with the lines on the C-pillars.
In the sketches the wheelbase looks quite
long, making room for an extra row of seats, while at the back, the modern
taillights are connected with a thin strip on the sculpted tailgate and the
rear bumper has a decorative aluminum-style insert.
Inside, the steering wheel and the
hardpoints look identical to the Seltos, which is to be expected since the two
models are rumored to share the same underpinnings. However, the Carens gets a
more futuristic design for the dashboard, with a 10.25-inch infotainment
touchscreen integrated on a full-width panel, as well as chrome accents on the
doors.
Following the example of its predecessors,
the Carens will be focused on space and practicality and will come with seven
seats. Karim Habib, Head of Kia Design Center, said: “The Kia Carens is a true
reflection on what today’s customers want from their three-row vehicles.”
