We knew it was coming and here it is, the 2022 Opel (Vauxhall in the UK) Astra Sports Tourer, a sleek-looking estate that will be available to order from early next year. As expected, the Astra Sports Tourer shares its styling cues with the latest-generation Astra hatchback. As such, it features a pair of sharp LED headlights with daytime running lights and connected with a piece of gloss black trim that houses various sensors.

Things obviously differ when you cast your eyes down the sides of the Astra Sports Tourer as the roofline has been extended. The car is 4.6 meters long, 1.8 meters wide, and 1.4 meters tall and this added size results in much more luggage room than the hatch. In fact, it offers 608 liters of cargo space with the rear seats in use. If the rear seats are folded down, cargo volume increases to 1,634 liters.

 

Full powertrain details for the Astra Sports Tourer haven’t been announced but it is expected to mimic the family of engines available in the hatchback. This should include a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol offered in 108 hp and 128 hp guises, as well as a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel with 128 hp.

Two plug-in hybrid variants are also expected, both of which have a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, an electric motor, and a 12.4 kWh battery pack and are rated at 178 hp and 222 hp respectively. The plug-in hybrid variants have slightly less cargo room with 548 liters of storage with the rear seats upright and 1,574 liters with them folded down.

 

Opel says that models equipped with the petrol and diesel engines will feature a moveable load floor that can be adjusted into high and low positions. It can also be tilted at a 45-degree angle. Speaking of the car’s cabin, it comes standard with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a large infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and is expected to be offered in the same Design, GS Line, and Ultimate trim levels as the hatchback.

Pricing details will be announced when order books open in early 2022 ahead of deliveries starting in the middle of the year.
