The leaked patent images of a new Geely Group pickup suggest it could be an all-electric vehicle: note the solid front grille and the tiny ‘air intake’ in the front bumper that looks clearly inadequate to feed an IC engine with air. Aside from these telltale features, there are also fake-looking side intakes. On most modern cars, these intakes serve a purely decorative purpose and do not lead anywhere inside the car.
Finally, the tailpipes appear to be
missing. Of course, they could simply be hidden, but the sum of the parts makes
us fairly confident that the truck has been designed to run on electric power
alone.
The dimensions are unclear, but lacking
running boards suggest it is a rather compact model. Most body-on-frame trucks
have large steps at their sides. This, and the wheels also seem quite small. A
light bar connecting the taillights at the back is also peculiar, because this
feature is often encountered on modern light passenger cars, not trucks.
Geely keeps silent about the new model. In
fact, we still don’t know what badge it will bear. Maple makes EVs, while
Farizon produces commercial transports, and another brand is coming soon that
will specialize exclusively in battery truck production. In other words, we
will have to wait and see.
