Ford has acquired trademark rights for ‘Maverick Tremor’ in the Republic of Chile, suggesting that the country might get a hardcore off-road version of the light pickup in the near future.

Nothing is guaranteed with patents – they often stay on paper and are never implemented in actual products – but if we were to guess, we would say the truck would debut with lockable differentials all around, tweaked suspension, underbody protection, a rugged body kit, meaty all-terrain tires, and more. This is what the Tremor badge on other Ford vehicles usually means, at any rate. The patent documents fail to mention anything useful about the car.

While it looks like the beefed-up pickup is only underway to the market of Chile, Ford fans in the other countries should not worry too much. The automaker is already working on multiple other off-road-capable versions of the truck, as evidenced by the various spy photos. For example, a pre-production truck sighted in the USA recently had a higher ground clearance, robust tires and other such upgrades.
