The electric truck race is heating up as GMC has released the first teasers of the Sierra Denali EV. Set to be unveiled next year, the electric luxury pickup will feature a unique design that has little in common with the facelifted 2022 Sierra. The front end is dominated by a fully enclosed grille, which features an illuminated outline as well as illuminated GMC badging. It’s flanked by stylish LED headlights, which have an expressive startup sequence.
Besides the lights, we can see an
aerodynamic front fascia with angular accents and vertical air curtains. The
truck also sports a unique hood and what appears to be black accents. The
Professional Grade brand is keeping details under wraps, but said the
“all-electric Sierra Denali will further evolve the technology, capability and
premium innovation you expect in a GMC.” That isn’t much to go on, but the
model will be based on the Ultium platform and be built alongside the GMC
Hummer EV at Factory Zero.
There’s no word on specifications, but the
Hummer might hold some clues as the truck will be offered with dual- and
tri-motor powertrains that have outputs of 625 hp, 830 hp and 1,000 hp. The off-road focused model
also promises to have a range in excess of 563 km in some
configurations.
The electric Sierra will be launched in
the popular Denali trim, but more affordable versions will follow in the
future. The decision to launch in the upmarket trim isn’t surprising as
consumers have embraced luxury pickups and GMC vice president Duncan Aldred
noted, “Sierra Denali holds tremendous equity for GMC and our customers.”
