BMW has never sold a car to the public with more power than the current M5 CS, which sports a twin-turbocharged V8 that makes 617-horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. The same engine is used by the M8 Competition, on which the tuners at Manhart have worked their magic to create the MH8 800, an 812-horsepower ode to excess. To reach that figure, Manhart starts with the the S63B44 engine to which they install numerous modifications. Included is the brand’s own turbocharger and intercooler upgrade and they also swap out the intake with a carbon fiber unit that allows for better air flow.
Making power requires getting the exhaust
gasses out of the engine quicker too so Manhart installs their own stainless
steel system which finishes off with four tailpipes that are just shy of 4
inches in diameter each. The resulting 812 hp and 1,070
Nm of torque speak for themselves – and the torque bump might be more
impressive than the horsepower.
Of course, reigning in all of those horses
requires a more sophisticated approach. The stock setup on the M8 Competition
is great, but it’s built for stock power. Manhart addresses this facet of
design as well, swapping the springs in favor of adjustable KW units. Then,
they install their own custom 21-inch Spider wheels that are 10.5-inches wide
up front and 11.5-inches in the back. Wrapped around those are 275 section
width front and 295 rear tires. That’s a serious package. It upgrades all of
the most important performance features of the original car, but the
customization doesn’t end there. Manhart will also include a complete carbon
package that features a black grille, a front spoiler, side skirts, and a rear
diffuser. The example that Manhart has shown us here also sports a decal
package and dark blue matte paint, while on the hood you’ll find special GTR
vents.
Those touches make it less likely that
someone might mistake the Manhart MH800 for a regular M8. There’s no word on
exactly what the price of this package might be, but Manhart is only going to
build 10 examples of the MH8 800.
